Youtube kenshi review5/30/2023 ![]() ![]() The work we do on the engine upgrade will also be applied to Kenshi 1 as a free update. (Not to mention a much faster release date) By sticking with the same code we are making the descision to prioritise gameplay instead of graphics. Why keep the same engine? Because a completely new engine would break everything and take another million years to finish. The engine will be upgraded to the latest version of Ogre, which should drastically improve performance. It will be based on the same code-base and engine. It will be set 1000 years in the past, during the time of the "Old Empire" and reveal more of the world's lore and history. At least you'll still have some basic assets already in stock. If you have others that open up the possibilities for deeper mechanics and more complex player interactions then you should take that path even if it requires a rewrite. If you think you can play it lightweight and focus on further developing the Setting and getting some better top-end performance using a tired display engine without also making significant changes to mechanics and player interaction, especially with all the NPCs and Factions you've lovingly written into the game. But, my warning is this:ĭevs:Staying comfy and quick-to-release with the same basic engine is not going to give returning players what they would expect out of a followup title in terms of gameplay mechanics. It just won't, not unless they've hired Supercoder it won't.Īnyway, I'm happy they're continuing the IP. That's too limited for what they could do and these things won't yield the mechanical improvements that players are going to expect in a followup title. I'm disappointed that it's going to remain with the same engine and same codebase. THAT'S what led to them making the announcement. Claims of "abandonment" and then people demanding further content additions."Demanding." A real cluster of garbage heaped upon the developer for doing exactly the kind of thing they're supposed to to - Release a game. Trolls and whiners, many just outright lying is what led to this announcement. Announcing a 2nd game so shortly after the official release of a game feels off. ![]() Originally posted by Paradoxical:This is weird, I expected a expansion of some kind and improvements to the base game. ![]()
